Mt. Gulaga
Gulaga, named Mount Dromedary by Captain Cook in 1770 is a significant landmark for the southern half of the Eurobodalla Nature Coast. Gulaga National Park was created in 2001 and was handed back to the traditional aboriginal owners, the Yuin people, on May 6, 2006.
The mountain has great spiritual significance to the Yuin, particularly the women, as Gulaga symbolises the mother.
Listen to local artist Cheryl Davison tell the story of Gulaga. http://livingknowledge.anu.edu.au/learningsites/kooricoast/10_gulaga_story.htm
The walking track that leaves from Pams Store in Tilba Tilba snakes through spectacular rainforest with hanging vines, mosses, ferns, fungi, granite outcrops and some incredible views. The return walk to the top is approximately 11 kilometres (7 miles) and takes about 5 hours.
Maps are available from Pams store and the Eurobodalla Coast Visitors Centres.
